Retaining walls: Install and/or reinstall exiting cables designed to provide lateral support to the <br />top of vertical retaining wall support. Cables should be anchored in a properly designed `dead <br />man system' installed on the inboard side of the access road and post tensioned. To confirm the <br />walls are performing satisfactorily, we recommend wall movement be frequently monitored. <br />The work plan should include a contingency plan for repairing the walls and limiting road access <br />in the event monitoring data indicate potential stability concerns with the walls. <br />Monitoring: Design and implement a monitoring program to measure the magnitude and rate of <br />movement of key access road locations and retaining wall components. Monitoring points <br />should consist of surface monuments located on the berm on the outboard side of the completed <br />access road and on key locations on retaining wall timbers. Inclinometers at key locations in the <br />roadway and on vertical retaining wall members should also be considered. The monitoring <br />points should be monitored periodically and the monitoring reports distributed the DRMS and <br />the County. The results should be compared with maximum allowable movement tolerances, <br />above which contingency actions should commence.
