Earthen berm construction for the ponds may require excavation of nearby borrow materials. Please provide
a map of the anticipated borrow source(s), as well as description of the areal extent of the borrow area, and
its disturbance and reclamation.
The description of the size and construction of the ponds is thorough, but please provide a description of the
reclamation of the ponds (such as backfilling, revegetation, etc.)
This office will begin to prepare the reclamation costs associated with this technical revision, and provide
RGS with the estimated figures. All information RGS can provide to the Division for a better estimate of
these costs will be important. Tasks that are expected to be included may consist of (1) demolition and
disposal of liners and piping materials, (2) earthwork to remove pond impoundments, (3) borrow area
reclamation, (4) revegetation of all disturbed areas (including topsoil and waste rock stockpile areas), and
(5) mobilization of equipment. The final reclamation task list will separate the tasks for the two ponds.
Water quality sampling has been performed by RGS outside of the Bulldog Mine permit requirements, and
other than a map of the sampling site locations, the Division has no further information. Please describe the
current water sampling program (surface or groundwater), such as site locations, sampling frequency, and
duration of baseline, that is pertinent to this project and could contribute to detecting hydrologic impacts
from the proposed activities. If there are results from pertinent samples, please provide them to the Division.
The Division's decision date is currently set for September 17, 2011. Please provide the written adequacy
responses before that date. If additional time is needed for preparing or submitting the responses, a written
request for an extension may be submitted.
As always, please provide two hard copies of all response materials, addressed to me at the address below.
If you have any questions, please contact me at the Division's Durango Field Office: 691 CR 233, Room A-
2, Durango, CO 81301; telephone 970 - 247 -5193.
Sincerely,
YG4
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Brian Morris or Randy McClure, Rio Grande Silver, Inc., PO Box 610, Creede, CO 81130
Ec: Steve Shuey, DRMS Grand Junction
Dustin Czapla, DRMS Grand Junction
Tom Malecek, USFS Monte Vista
(c: \11 -08 docs\Bulldog TR -17 adq2/rco)
