Arthur Ph.D.
Environmental Manager
5134 Ute Highway
Lyons, Colorado 80540
Tel. (303) 517 -3043
The Operator has proposed eliminating the following analytes from the water
monitoring Program: Chloride, Sulfate, Selenium, and Thallium. The Division
does not approve the removal of the above listed analytes from the water
monitoring program. C -Pit continues to be the designated disposal site for CKD
at the Lyons Quarry and the Operator has stated there are currently no plans to
permanently close C -Pit. In addition, Table 1 of this submittal shows water in C-
Pit has exceeded the numeric protection level standards for Thallium and
Selenium within the past year. The Division believes the above listed analytes
should remain as part of the sampling suite until groundwater is no longer
exposed and C -Pit has been capped and reclaimed in accordance with the
approved Reclamation Plan. In addition, the Division believes the Operator
should continue to sample for pH, Dissolved Solids, Calcium, Potassium, and
Sodium.
