•
are stands of Russian Wildrye and Crested Wheatgrass and a few Alfalfa plants that have
become established. In general, there is an abundance of annuals, consisting mostly of
Cheatgrass and Russian Thistle growing. On that portion of the proposed equipment corridor
located in the northern portion, approximately 6 inches of subsoil was respread over the graded
spoil. This is rather clayey, poor quality plant growth material and in these areas there is a
dominance of Sand Dropseed and Crested Wheatgrass growing. There are significantly fewer
shrubs and annuals growing on the subsoiled reclamation areas.
The total area of the Reclaimed Spoil vegetation type as shown on Map 2.04.10 -1, Permit Area
Vegetation Map, is 4.42 acres and this type equals 1.37 percent of the proposed mine permit
area. No mining disturbance is proposed for the proposed equipment corridor and the mine
equipment will merely be trammed across these areas. There should be minimal disturbance to
the Reclaimed Spoil vegetation type. Inspections of the proposed equipment corridor in August,
September and November of 2009 revealed no possible threatened or endangered plants growing
on these sites.
RESIDENTIAL / AGRICULTURAL DISTURBANCE
This vegetation type exists in those areas surrounding the existing homesites on the Meehan and
Garvey property and the trailer house on the Glasier property. Included in this vegetation type
are the existing corrals, agricultural outbuildings and stack yards located on this site. The
vegetation growing on these sites consists mostly of annual weedy species, except where there
are small portions of irrigated lawns. Outside of the planted lawn grass areas, the vegetation is
dominated mostly by annuals consisting mostly of Summer Cypress, Cheatgrass and Russian
Thistle. On numerous portions of the Glasier property, there has been a rather significant
invasion of Russian Knapweed into these areas.
The total area of the Residential / Agricultural Disturbance vegetation type as shown on Map
2.04.10 -1, Permit Area Vegetation Map, is 3.47 acres and this type equals 1.08 percent of the
proposed mine permit area.
PONDS
This vegetation type exists in those areas corresponding to livestock ponds and irrigation holding
ponds. These sites are devoid of vegetation, because they possess standing water for sufficient
time during the year to drown out even the most water tolerant species.
There are eight livestock ponds located within the proposed NHN Mine permit area. The total
area of the Ponds vegetation type as shown on Map 2.04.10 -1, Permit Area Vegetation Map, is
1.03 acres and this type equals 0.32 percent of the proposed mine permit area.
IRRIGATION DITCH
Section 2.04.10 Page 20 April 2011
