This notification is
required by Section V.A.2 of the Whirlwind Mine Approval for Construction.
Ventilation of the Whirlwind Mine commenced on September 10, 2008. The Whirlwind
Mine is currently on stand -by and is only ventilated as necessary to perform maintenance
tasks inside the mine The radon levels in the mine are currently very low. Non -
ventilated mine air was recently measured at 0.173 working levels, or approximately 1.7
pCi/L at an efficiency of 0.5). These levels are low because the ore zone of the mine is
completely flooded. The primary purpose for ventilating the mine is not to control radon
levels, but to control diesel particulate matter (dpm) levels and to comply with MSHA
regulations.
Currently there are no immediate plans to dewater and start active mining at the
Whirlwind Mine. Energy Fuels will provide notification of start of active mining at such
time that it is planned. Please contact me or. Frank Filas, Director of Environmental and
Regulatory Affairs, should you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely
44 Union Blvd., Suite 600
Lakewood, Colorado 80228
Phone: 303 -974 -2140
Fax: 303 -974 -2141
6e/4
2 011
DiVi n of F ecl
l intn g and 05 S e I,
SEP
