OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M -1980 -047
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: THM
INSPECTION DATE: August 15, 2011
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS).
This was a partial inspection with the primary focus to observe the locations of the future proposed acreage
reduction of the East Middle Fork of Parachute Creek. ExxonMobil has leased the land to Encana Oil and Gas
to allow for natural gas drilling and intends to request for an Acreage Release of the land observed during the
inspection prior to any drilling related disturbances occur. No other components of the mine were inspected on
August 15, 2011.
No post -law mine related disturbance has occurred within the East Middle Fork drainage and the only evidence
of pre -law mining related disturbance was in the form of revegetative study plots that are from 1972, as
indicated on signs that exist within the study plots. The revegetative study plots appear to be spent shale piles
due to their dark color. The suspected spent shale piles are completely revegetated with a mature stand of
native shrubs and perennial grasses. If and when an Acreage Release request is submitted by the operator the
Division will likely approve the request based on the conditions observed during this inspection as long as the
request is submitted in a timely manner. If the request is submitted later than October 15, 2011 Division staff
will be required to inspect the sight again.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3 Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone no. (970) 241 -2042.
