0 Greg Lewicki And Associates
•
•
August 25, 2011
Travis Marshal
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
101 South 3rd Suite 301
Grand Junction, CO 81501
(970)- 241 -2042
Mr. Marshal
11541 Warrington Court Phone (303) 346 -5196 Fax: (303) - 346 -6934
Parker, CO USA 80138 E- Mail:info@lewicki.biz
RE: Craig Ranch Pit - Stormwater Response, Permit # M- 1986- 002 /CN -01
Based on the discussions between Tim G, Greg Lewicki, and yourself, the following items have
been implemented as part of the amended permit conversion application for the Craig Ranch Pit.
This memo is a summation of the items for the Division's convenience.
1. After topsoil material is placed at each of the "islands" it will be roughened using a
backhoe bucket. This should aid in water retention and therefore vegetation growth at
each island.
2. If a natural channel of appropriate size does not exist in the bedrock beneath the gravel
upon excavation, a channel will be installed via a dozer and ripper. This is done to
maintain the pre -mine drainage patterns on the site.
3. In order to encourage fast vegetation establishment in the islands, Quick Guard, a sterile
annual triticale companion crop that has been successful in establishing initial vegetation
stands, will be added to the revegetation seed mix. This will be done at a rate of 10
pounds of live seed per acre.
4. The eastern sediment pond in the property will also be the site of a vegetation island.
5. The drainage channel for SWB 6 as shown on Map G, will not be mined within 10 feet of
the channel. This is to protect the natural channel that has formed in the bedrock.
6. The western sediment pond will be dug five feet down into the natural grade, and the
eastern pond will be dug down one foot. Since both ponds will be incised to contain the
100 -year event, there is no need for gravel berms.
7. Spillways will be constructed at both the east and west sediment ponds. These spillways
will be eight feet wide at the bottom, with 2H:1 V sideslopes, and have a total depth of 1.5
feet. The bottom and sides of the spillways will be armored with rock that has a D50 of six
inches. Each of these spillways will be built long enough to reach the natural drainages
on the north side of their respective ponds.
