•
•
•
DESCRIPTION OF CHANGES IN THIS AMENDMENT 4
Amendment 4 adds a new mining phase to the Pueblo East Pit. As shown on the map, Phase 7, is located
immediately east of the present operation. All of the land is under the ownership of Valco and the operator. It is
fully approved under special use permits 596 and 2004 -014. While both SUP's contain a mining and reclamation
plan, the State Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DRMS) permit does not. Thus this amendment to
the State permit includes a mining and reclamation plan for this Phase 7 area and includes some land for a
drainage channel.
In addition this amendment revises the Phase 1 reclamation plan to regenerate naturally into riparian and wetland
regimes without soil backfill.
Transit Mix of Pueblo has held several meeting with the Pueblo County Planning Department. In these meetings
we confirmed the compliance of our State DRMS amendment with the maps and conditions of SUP 596 and
2004 -014.
The staff of Transit Mix has visited every nearby neighbor to inform them of the mining operation. Water wells
adversely affected by the mining will be mitigated by methods which may include water cisterns.
The material mined from the Phase 7 area will be conveyed to the existing processing plant. No new or additional
traffic will be generated by the amendment area. The State water and air quality permits will be updated to
include the new Phase 7 area. The off site drainage will be directed through the operator's land and no flooding
of adjacent land will occur.
The mining of Phase 7 will occur over two to three years and include at least two more years for reclamation.
After mining, the land will be filled in with soil and revegetated with grasses. The mining will not result in any
lakes.
