OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M- 2009 -076
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: JLE
INSPECTION DATE: August 12, 2011
This was a monitoring inspection of the Hukill Gulch Millsite; DRMS File No. M- 2009 -076, Operated by Venture
Resources, Inc. This site is located approximately 2 miles north of Idaho Springs, Colorado in Clear Creek
County. I, Jared Ebert and Berhan Keffelew of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
conducted the inspection. Mr. Ryan McHale of Venture Resources accompanied us on the inspection.
One of the requirements for this site was for the Operator to provide the Division with 10 days of notice prior
to the installation of the Composite Liner System under the tailings Impoundment. The Operator complied
with this requirement and will be installing the Composite Liner System for the Barrier Impoundment and
Bench #1 portion of the tailings impoundment. This inspection was conducted to document the site
preparation operations and condition of the sub -grade of these portions of the impoundment where the liner
will be installed.
The stormwater diversion ditch has been installed and lined with rip -rap. The impoundment sub -grade has
been cleared of large rocks and debris that could puncture the liner system. The surface has been graded and
smoothed with hand rakes. The anchor trench has been constructed, however several larger rocks were
observed at the base of the trench that could damage the liner and hinder its anchoring ability. Mr. McHale
indicated these rocks would be removed during the installation of the liner. Overall, the Operator appears to
be conducting the operation in accordance with the approved plan. A follow up inspection will be conducted
once the liner has been installed.
