Inspection Contact Address
Joe Nelson
Chaffee County
P.O. Box 699
Salida, CO 81201
OBSERVATIONS
No mine related debris or trash was observed. No erosion and sedimentation were noted.
This is a county pit so no financial warranty is required.
Overall the site is well kept and complies with the mine and reclamation plans.
PERMIT #: M- 1978 -192
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: GRM
INSPECTION DATE: August 9, 2011
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division) for permitted sites. The Pit No. 6 is a 110c permitted site located
southwest of Buena Vista at the end of CR 328. The inspector met on site with Chaffee County representative
Joe Nelson.
The mine identification sign is posted at the mine office and complies with Rule 3.1.12. Permit boundaries are
marked by t -posts and fence lines around the perimeter.
Mining operations appear to be ongoing. The operator is moving material to a screener to extract gravels. A
stockpile was noted in the center of the pit. The operation is consistent with the current mine plans. Total
new disturbance is around one acre. No equipment, fuel, or hazardous materials were observed on site.
The operator had intended on reclaiming the site and asking for release. Slopes are 3:1 or better. Vegetation
in most areas is native grasses, some shrubs, and volunteer cacti. Re- evaluation of the site has brought the pit
back into limited production and as noted the disturbance is around 1 acre. No noxious or problematic weeds
were observed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Reclamation, Mining,
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
phone no. 970 - 241 -1117.
