I spoke with Mr. Timothy Pierce on the telephone earlier this week regarding this
permit, as well.
There do not appear to be significant wildlife impacts with the addition of the 4.73 acres in Tract 1-A,
or 1.03 acres in Tract 1-B (total of 5.77 acres). In our conversation, Mr. Pierce explained that few or
no trees would be removed, as much of the additional acreage is currently in grasses. Considering the
proximity to the already heavily impacted area, cumulative impacts of the addition of these acres
would be minimal.
Restoration post-mining will be agricultural land use, according to the permit. Efforts to stabilize the
soil as quickly as possible will likely reduce soil erosion, and invasion by noxious weeds, and this
early effort at revegetation should be encouraged.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife appreciates the opportunity to comment on projects through your
office.
/( Sincerely,
Eric Odell
Habitat Biologist
Cc: Shaun Deeney, CDOW
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Greg E.
