Pineda <br />Director <br />RE: Geisert Pit; DRMS File No. M- 1978 -210; Technical Revision — 03; Adequacy Review <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) has completed its adequacy review <br />of your Technical Revision to the above referenced permit. The Technical Revision was received <br />and called complete for review on August 1, 2011. The decision date for this application is <br />August 31, 2011. Please be advised that if you are unable to satisfactorily address any <br />concerns identified in this review before the decision date, it will be your responsibility to <br />request an extension of the review period. If there are outstanding issues that have not <br />been adequately addressed prior to the end of the review period, and no extension has been <br />requested, the Division will deny this application. <br />1. The Applicant has indicated clay borrow material will be imported from offsite and used to <br />backfill the slurry trench. Construction Materials Rule 3.1.5(9) states that if an Operator <br />intends to backfill inert structural fill generated outside of the approved permit area, it is the <br />Operator's responsibility to provide the Office notice of any proposed backfill activity not <br />identified in the approved Reclamation Plan. In accordance with Rule 3.1.5(9), the Operator <br />shall submit signed affidavit certifying that the material is clean and inert. <br />2. The Site Plan Map shows a water line will bisect the slurry wall at two points. Please <br />describe the techniques which will be used to prevent groundwater seepage around the water <br />line. In addition, please provide the Division with a typical design drawing showing the <br />crossing of the water line. <br />3. Please commit to providing the Division with a final construction report detailing the <br />installation of the slurry wall, describing any problems that occurred, and listing the results of <br />testing that was conducted under the approved quality assurance /quality control plan. <br />Office of Office of <br />Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines <br />
