• <br />• <br />INTRODUCTION <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Colowyo Coal Company L.P. (Colowyo) is proposing a new surface mining area adjacent to the existing <br />mining operations. The land of interest includes the Collom area which is located south and west of the <br />previously- approved permit boundary. The Collom permit expansion area includes approximately <br />16,833.24 acres. The proposed Collom permit expansion area includes Federal Coal Leases C- 0123475, <br />C- 0123476, COC- 68590, (unleased and unassigned federal coal for Little Collom X pit area, pending), <br />and State Lease 257 -13s. <br />The existing Colowyo Permit C -81 -019 (previously- approved permit document) contains information <br />relevant to the Collom permit expansion area. Additional information specific to the Collom permit <br />expansion area is presented herein. Sections not addressed in this document were not modified and <br />Collom permit expansion area is presented for the following sections: <br />Rule 2 Permits <br />Rule 3 Performance Bond <br />Rule 4 Performance Standards <br />Colowyo has acquired background environmental data covering the Collom permit expansion area during <br />studies conducted by Utah International (1982- 1983), Consolidation Coal Company (1983- 1985), and <br />Colowyo from 1979 to the present. This data is used to support the Collom permit expansion area. This <br />document has been formatted to present new information and reference information already presented in <br />the existing permit document.
