Water Quality
Surface Water Sampling, Idaho and Mayday Mine Permit Areas
Exhibit U — Attachment U -4
1.3 Idaho Spring
1.4 Additional Surface Water Sampling Point
2.0 Analytical Results
Wildcat Mining Corporation
May Day Idaho Mine Complex — 112d Permit Application
Revised August, 2011
Exhibit U — Attachment U -4
At both locations the channel is narrow and shallow. When accessible, flow readings were taken
from the approximate center of the channel, resting the flow meter on the bottom of the channel.
Field parameters (Table 1) indicate that the water is aerobic and neutral pH range with low
dissolved salts.
The Idaho Spring (Exhibit U, Attachment U -4, Table Idaho Spring (1 through 5)) is located west
of Idaho Adit No. 1, expressing at the surface immediately below the access road. At the Idaho
spring, the channel was narrow and shallow. Flow readings were taken from the approximate
center of the channel, resting the flow meter on the bottom of the channel. Field parameters
(Table 1) indicate that the water is aerobic and within a neutral pH range with low dissolved
salts.
A fifth surface water sampling station was located at the request of DRMS during the fifth
sampling quarter. The site is located at the down gradient beaver pond below the access road.
Analytical results for five quarters are presented in Exhibit U, Attachment U -4. Sulfate
concentrations above the reporting limit of 5 mg /1 for all locations but well below secondary
standards of 250 mg /l. The highest concentration was recorded at the Idaho Spring at a
concentration of 35 mg /1, however there was no increase in sulfate concentration reported
downstream of the spring at the SW -2 -(La Plata River sampling station) for all sampling events.
Dissolved metal analytical results are presented in Exhibit U, Attachment U -4. There were no
exceedances of primary health or Acute or Chronic Aquatic Life Standards.
Total metal and total recoverable analytical results are presented in Attachment U -4. There are
no significant increases in total or total recoverable metal results recorded at any of the sampling
points and DG -2.
A duplicate sample was collected at sample point SW -1 (Second Quarterly Sample). The
relative percent difference for all analytes was considerably less than the commonly accepted
20 %.
