The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article
33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on August 8, 2011, an application to
renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Seneca II Mine was considered complete
for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining
Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Seneca Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue Surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on
land located approximately 9 miles Southeast of Hayden, Colorado. The permit area is further described as
follows:
The above - mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Milner and Mount
Harris.
Seneca Coal Company has submitted an application for successive renewal of a valid existing permit to
conduct mining and reclamation activities in Colorado. This application does not include extensions of the
permit area or any activities within the permit area. No additional disturbance is requested for this permit
area. The permit renewal extends the permit term for another 5 years.
Because the above referenced permit renewal application would incorporate additional lands into the permit
area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are
requesting your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy
of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to
fish and wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are
requested. If wildlife habitat is the proposed postmining land use, we request your evaluation of proposed
