Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
I have finished my review of Cam Colorado LLC's responses, dated July 8, 2011, to the
Division's adequacy review letter dated June 21, 2011. The following is the status of my
remaining questions and comments, as well as several new questions 47. 1) through 47. 15). My
review assumes that the construction material borrow area, borrow area topsoil stockpile and
pond 4 will be deleted from the plan and that permit text, designs and maps will be appropriately
revised. This is stated in new comment 47. 1).
13. Rule 2.04.7(2)(a) requires that the baseline surface water data show seasonal variations
in the quantity and quality of the surface water. However, only two quarters of the
baseline surface water data are presented in Exhibit 3 of Volume II. Please submit
additional baseline surface water data in compliance with Rule 2.04.7(2)(a).
In the submittal dated April 11, 2011, CAM updated the water monitoring data in
Appendix 3 to include monitoring results for all four quarters of 2010. CAM continues to
gather baseline hydrologic data for the Lower Downstream Loma Drain surface water
station since that station had been added only recently. According to CAM in their July 8,
2011 submittal, third quarter monitoring at that site was to be completed in June 2011.
15A. On page 2.05 -59 of the April 11, 2011 submittal, the first sentence states that the
Colorado River will not be monitored. Please correct this statement since the river is part
of the water monitoring program.
Page 2.05 -63 was revised in the July 8, 2011 submittal to state that the Colorado River is
not part of the long term hydrologic monitoring program, which was agreed to by the
Division. The revised text states that four quarters of pre -bond release hydrologic data
will be gathered for the Colorado River. However, please also add that baseline
hydrologic data will be obtained for the Colorado River.
19. Referring to Map 08, "Hydrologic Monitoring Locations " for Rule 2.05.6(3)(b)(iv),
please explain why surface water monitoring station DS -CR is located where it might be
influenced by the adjacent gravel pits and by the flow from the upriver Grand Valley
Canal.
Office of Office of
Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
