The purpose of this amendment is to include the evaporation from a 3 -acre pond
located on the Dakolios gravel mining site DRMS Permit No. M -84 -036. All other consumptive uses of
the original SWSP approved for the Durham Pit will remain the same as in the February 23, 2011
approval.
Plan Operation
VCI obtained a storage water rights decree in case no. 2001 CW274 for the Dakolios Reservoirs.
The Dakolios Reservoirs consist of two ponds within the Dakolios Pit permitted area, which were lined
with a slurry wall and the lining was approved by the Division 1 Office in accordance with the State
Engineer Guidelines for Lining Criteria.
According to the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety amended application for the
Dakolios Pit approximately 3 acres of ground water remain exposed at the site, which are proposed to
be backfilled. Therefore, until the three acres are completely backfilled, the proposed operation will still
consume ground water by evaporation. This amended plan seeks to replace depletions from
evaporation from the 3 -acre pond at the Dakolios Pit site.
Depletions
The net evaporation depletion from the 3 -acre pond is 7.69 acre -feet per year. Computation of
evaporation from the 3 -acre pond was reduced during the ice covered period. You have assumed the
ice covered period to occur during the months of January, February and December, based on the
average temperatures of 27.0 °F for January, 30.8° for February and 28.8 °F for December; taken from
the Longmont weather station. However, for the purpose of this SWSP, the Applicant shall replace the
net evaporation depletions from the exposed ground water surface area that may occur during the
assumed ice covered period (the yrtonths of January, February and December) for any time that the pit
Office of the State Engineer R EC E IV F
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 - 866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
www.water.state.co.us
John W.
