Table II presents a summary
of the measured hydraulic conductivity for the bedrock.
Groundwater in the alluvial aquifer was encountered from 9 ft to 23 ft bgs.
Groundwater elevations ranged from 4630.0 ft to 4648.0 ft.
2.1.2 Test Trenches
Lyman Henn completed 2 test trenches near the west wall of the existing mined pit to
the east of the proposed slurry wall. The test trench locations are shown in plan view
on Sheet 102. The test trenches were dug by a miner using a small backhoe and logged
in the field by Lyman Henn. The test trenches were approximately 3 ft wide and were 8
ft in length by 8 ft deep.
The purpose of the test trenches was to further investigate the percentage of fines
content within the clayey sand and sandy lean clay overburden that had been stockpiled
in this area. Determining the percentage of fines provided important information about
whether or not the material in this location can be used in the slurry wall mix design.
2.2 Laboratory Investigations
To aid in classifying and determining general soil, slurry and backfill characteristics, selected
laboratory tests were performed on representative samples; test method references are shown in
the following table.
The test boring reports were amended as necessary to reflect laboratory test data. The results of
the laboratory testing are summarized in Tables IV and V. Laboratory analysis was performed
at Lyman Henn's soil laboratory in Denver, Colorado and Advanced Terra Testing's laboratory
in Lakewood, CO.
G:\PROJECCS \111025 Geisert Gravel Pit Slurry Wall \O \O1 \Geiser[ Slurry Wall Design Report.doc
3
