PERMIT #: M -1998 -019
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: July 28, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
The Grand Gravel Pit, File No. M- 1998 -019, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety (Division) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. Mr. Richard and Bud
Curry with Grand Gravel were present during the inspection.
The Grand Gravel Pit was previously inspected by the Division on May 22, 2006 in response to a conversion
(110c to 112c) application which incorporated the entire permit acreage from the Lafarge 111 permit (M-
2005 -024) into the Grand Gravel site.
Financial Warranty:
The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the amount of $29,333, which is adequate to reclaim the
site based on the inspection observations.
Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
The site was active during this inspection. Stockpiled recycled asphalt was being hauled away by truck and
reclamation activity was occurring at the southeast corner of the site. The northern portion of the site
contained the asphalt recycling plant and stockpiles of recycled and processed asphalt. The middle of the site
contained the scale and product stockpiles. The southern portion of the site contained product stockpiles and
the mining highwall. Mining activities are progressing to the southwest. The highwall was approximately 15'
high. The pit floor varies from between 12 to 18 feet deep based on the elevation of the clay seam. No fuel
was stored on site. Mr. Curry indicated the tanks observed at the site were empty.
Reclamation Success:
Reclamation activities have begun in the southeast corner of the site. Overburden material was being placed
by a small dozer to create the final 3H:1V slope required by the approved reclamation plan. A stockpile of
topsoil was located above the area being reclaimed and will be used for final reclamation of this area. The
Operator plans to begin reclaiming the site from the north to the south as the existing stockpiles are removed
and space is available to perform reclamation activities. A very large, well- vegetated stockpile of topsoil was
located in the middle of the site along the west side. Additional, smaller stockpiles of topsoil were observed
throughout the site. It appeared ample topsoil was available to reclaim the site. No noxious weeds were
observed during the inspection.
Signs and Markers:
The mine sign and permit boundary markers were observed, as required by Rule 3.1.12. The south and east
permit boundaries are delineated by a fence and the west and north boundaries are delineated by steel posts.
All mining disturbances were contained within the permit boundaries.
No problems were noted during the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mr. Richard Curry
Grand Gravel
1167 County Road 2
Kremmling, CO 80459
Cc: Tony Waldron; DRMS
