It would be beneficial to have a
soils map as well as associated soil descriptions when developing a plan for a mine or any reclamation
efforts. This can be completed using Web Soil Survey.
http: / /web soilsurvey.nres.usda.gov /app /HomePage.htm
Should Rimrock Exploration have any problems developing a soils map our staff can assist them.
A County- directed weed mitigation plan is always a good practice to consider when disturbing
any soil. Reclamation on any soil disturbance is important to reduce weeds. Native grasses are the best
defense against weeds in the long run. I would recommend that the County Weed Specialist be
contacted and they can help with a weed management plan and can assist with a good grass seed mix
recommendation to help with soil disturbance reclamation.
Feel free to contact us if you need any technical assistance developing seed mixes or
developing soils maps.
Sincerely,
Lars Santana
Rangeland Specialist
United States Department of Agriculture
Natural Resources Conservation Service
United States Department of Agriculture
CC: Shavano Conservation District — Shannon Castrodale
ECEIVNID
:0 2011
Division or Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
M- Qot1 —C O COM
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Employer and Provider
July 27, 2011
