July 19,2011 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine JRS
ROADS—Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5)and(6)/4.03.2(5) and(6)Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
-The mine entrance road is a paved road. The road is stable.
-The haul road to the refuse pile was well maintained and stable and no erosional problems were noted at the time
of the inspection. There were small pools of standing water in spots on the road but it was not a problem.
-The conveyor corridor road was well maintained and stable and no erosional problems were noted. The road was
wet from the recent rain and there were a few small pools of water on the road in the low spots.
-The road spurs to the slot storage area, to the nitrogen injection facility and rock dust tank 3 and the water tank
bench were all well maintained and stable. No erosional problems were noted on any of the roads at the time of
the inspection. As with the other roads, these roads were wet and there were small pools of water on the roads at
some of the low spots.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
-The recently seeded subsoil stockpile at RP-5a is doing well. The area has benefitted from the wet summer and
there is a good stand of perennial grasses on the reclaimed surface. There were also small four wing saltbush and
big sagebrush plants present on the reseeded area. There was very little cheatgrass and very few annual weeds
present on the pile. This reseeding is a good test for the reverse sequencing of the topsoil and subsoil approved for
the refuse piles at the Deserado Mine. Based on the results from this first growing season the reverse sequencing
looks promising. The Division will continue to monitor the reclamation progress on this subsoil pile.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
-The pads for rock dust tank 3 and the nitrogen injection system were all stable at the time of the inspection. The
SAE's at the sites all appear to be functioning as designed.
-The slot storage pad and area was stable at the time of the inspection. There was no erosion noted on the pad or
the outslopes of the pad.
-The pad for the underground diesel storage tank was stable at the time of the inspection. There was some
standing water at the entrance to the pad, where there is a small low spot, but it did not appear to be affecting the
pad's stability. The SAE at the pad appeared to be functioning as designed.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED:None
This concludes the 19 July 2011 inspection report for the Deserado Mine.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 4 of 5
