2. Backfilling - Backfilling of mined areas was done on two small areas in the old lease area.
As described in the plan, mining continues in a deposit until the mining limit is reached or the
deposit ends.
A. Depth of backfilling - Backfilling that was done exhibited previous patterns of
achieving greater depths of fill than would normally be expected. Where backfilling
was done the land was returned to the original elevation.
B. Material used in backfilling - Most of the backfilling has used overburden and
subsoils stripped from the site where the filling is being done or at least sites that were
near enough to the backfilling that it is still considered to be original material. This is
consistent with the method of operation described in the plans. Other sources of
material include wash fines from processing plant pond cleaning.
C. Maximum, minimum, and average slopes - Finished slopes in all the backfilled,
graded and topsoiled areas are rarely even close to the 5:1 limit. Most are in the 7:1 to
15:1 or less steep range. Backfilled areas in the last year are almost level (no slope).
D. Deviation from original elevation for new backfilled land - Backfilling this year
returned the land to its original elevation.
3. Processing facilities - Nothing has changed here.
4. Access corridors - No change in access corridors.
5. New soil and overburden stockpiles - A large stockpile of new overburden was established
this last year. It is located immediately south of the active pit and adjacent to where it will be
used. A new pit to the south of the main pit was explored and found to contain poor material.
This pit may be backfilled in the next year with material from the new stockpile.
RECLAMATION ACTIVITY IN THE LAST YEAR:
1. Climatic summary of previous year - This was previously discussed elsewhere in the
report.
2. Topsoiling - Some minor topsoiling was done in the last year, all of it on upland areas that
were completed with backfilling.
A. Locations of topsoiling - All the topsoiling done in the last year was on the south
end of the upland area in the older mined locations immediately west of the main road
and near the first cattle guard. Some minor backfilling was done in other locations
nearby. Other than the current mining and the plant site, all land east of the main road
has been reclaimed.
Status report for 2009
due July 15, 2010 Page 6 of 13
