OFFICERS
Del Beattie, Mayor
Dave Stone, Town Manager
Joe Kiely, Assistant Manager
Chris Snyder, Town Clerk, Treasurer
Lynn Yowell, Police Chief
100 Civic Center Drive
P.O. Box 9
Limon, CO 80828
719- 775 -2346
July 15, 2011
Mr. Jared Ebert
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273
Re: Permit M -1998 -103
Dear Jared:
TRUSTEES
Jim Andersen
Linda Hawthorne
Jack Hendricks
Mike Kelly
Greg King
Paul Metcalf
RECEIVED
iii 182011
1 Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
First of all, I would like to thank Michael Cunningham for coming out for a courtesy visit while you
were unavailable. During his visit he indicated a couple of items that needed corrective action taken and
this response is an attempt to satisfy those recommendations. We did complete the grading
improvements as he recommended, as you'll see on the pictures included. These pictures were taken
from the northeast corner of the lot. The first two were facing north along the eastern boundary and the
third was facing to the west from about 50 feet inside the eastern boundary.
We are not seeking closure of the permit area at this time, but had an agreement with a company to
complete a portion of the reclamation as a part of the price negotiation process. The visit from your
office was requested to assist us with determining compliance with the permit closure plan and
Michael' s visit certainly assisted with that determination and I greatly appreciate that.
They have completed what we had asked of them and we will continue excavation along the eastern
edge at such time the demand for additional supply resurfaces.
The soil that was imported was hauled from a feedlot that was closed in- 1999 on the south edge of
Limon. We hauled approximately 4320 cubic yards to the pit site to amend and supplement the volume
of topsoil that had been stockpiled and redistributed across the surface of the mined area. The native
topsoil in the pit area was not only deficient in quantity to meet the required 5 to 12 inches for
reclamation, but was also deficient in nutrient quality, thus the need for amending the soil with imported
humus.
Please let me know if there is more that I need to do at this time. I will be in touch in the future about
permanent closure, after the remaining material has been removed. Thanks again for your assistance!
Respectfully,
Dave Stone, Manager
Town of Limon
.i le, mac
rNS P. prn,- 6 f zq/,,
