DRMS Form 2 Public <br />CPP LLC C -SR -12 2011 NOI <br />Figure A -1: Schematic map of proposed drill pad <br />Mud pits will be constructed as needed to contain the drilling fluids and to ensure that no fluids will be <br />introduced into the ephemeral drainages or anywhere not contained. In the event that large amounts of <br />water are encountered during drilling, the pits will be designed and maintained so that only decanted <br />water is allowed to escape into surrounding areas that are not ephemeral drainages. <br />Some of the access trails and drill pads may require some cutting of brush, tree limbs and <br />perhaps the removal of a specific pinion or juniper tree. Cut material will be temporarily placed in a pile <br />or piles adjacent to the access trail or drill site, and then scattered back over the trail or site during <br />reclamation. See Appendix C for photos showcasing the general vegetation surrounding the proposed <br />drill sites. <br />Drill Hole Abandonment <br />No more than three drill holes will be left open at any one time. <br />A) Plugging Procedure <br />- Dry or Damp Hole - The drill hole will be backfilled as much as possible with cuttings, using <br />all the mineralized material first. After backfilling to about 5 feet from the surface, a <br />spray foam plug or concrete plug will be brought to within about 2 feet of the surface. The <br />remainder of the hole to the surface will be filled with native topsoil. <br />- Wet Hole — Non - flowing Aquifer - While not expected to occur, the hole will be backfilled <br />with a thick bentonitic mud with a > 50 second viscosity to a point 50 feet above the static <br />water level. The mud will be pumped to the bottom of the hole through the drill pipe and the <br />pipe will be periodically withdrawn as the mudlevel rises in the hole. If closure occurs when <br />the drill rig is not available, 3/8 "bentonite chips will be added to the hole in a manner as to <br />avoid bridging until the bentonite chip backfill column is at least 50 feet above the static water <br />level. The remainder of the hole will be backfilled as per a dry or damp hole. <br />- Wet Hole — Flowing Aquifer - While considered highly unlikely, if a flowing aquifer is <br />penetrated, then drilling will pause and the permitting agencies will be consulted for <br />recommended abandonment methods. <br />B) Surface Restoration — <br />The cutting pits will be backfilled, and graded with native soil forming the top surface. These <br />areas will be seeded with approved seed mixture (see Appendix B). Any cuttings which <br />surround the hole collar or otherwise do not get to the pit during drilling will also be buried. <br />Where these cuttings are thin ( <2 "), they will be raked to mix with native soil and seeded. No <br />mineralized cuttings will be buried in the containment pits. Areas where equipment is driven <br />and the soil becomes compacted will be scarified and seeded with an approved seed mixture. <br />All areas of moderate soil disturbance or more will be broadcast with seeds immediately <br />following reclamation. <br />Appendices Page 4 of 8 <br />
