The existing disturbance areas at Nucla Mine are associated <br /> with three separate Colorado mining regulation periods. The old shop area and existing <br /> spoil piles and pits associated with Mine Area 4 and the eastern half of the new <br /> facilities area are included in Period 1 which extends from July 1, 1969 through July 1, <br /> 1976. Topsoil salvage and replacement were not included in the reclamation plan for these <br /> pre-law areas. Period 2 includes existing post-law (July 1, 1976) disturbance areas at <br /> Nucla Mine which fall under Permit 75-36. Disturbance categories include the NPDES sites <br /> associated with Mine Areas 2 and 3 (see Exhibit 12-2, Operations Plan). Minimal topsoil <br /> salvage occurred during previous mining activities in Mine Areas 2 and 3. Four to eight <br /> inches of topsoil was replaced in Mine Areas 2 and 3 as approved by CMLRD under Permit <br /> 75-36. <br /> Period 3 includes existing post-Colorado law (July 1, 1976) disturbance areas at Nucla <br /> Mine which fall under Permit C-81-008.
