Ran a of Characteristics: Bar. was described at 12 locations within the study area (profile description numbers / 1, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 18, 24, 25, 26, 58,
an ept to a rack 40 inches, and averaged more than 67 inches across the study area. The solum is 20 to 40 inches thick although
with the inclusion of the IN, calcic horizon it can be thicker. The Bk calcic horizon is at a depth ranging from 16 to 54 inches. The profile has 0 to 15
percent rock fragments. If unplowed, the surface horizon is usually leached of carbonates. The Bt particle-size control section has 18 to 34 percent
clay. Profile hue is IOYR, 7.5YR, SYR, 2.5YR or 2.5Y. The A horizon has value of 4 to 6 dry, and chromas of 3 to 6. It is neutral through moderately
alkaline. The Bt and Btk horizons have value of 3 to 7.5 dry and moist and chroma of 3 to 6. Textures are dominanely sandy clay loam or loam. Reaction
is mildly to moderately alkaline and is noncalcareous to strongly calcareous in the Bt argillic horizon and is strongly to very strongly calcareous in the
Bk calcic horizon. Calcium carbonate equivalent in the calcic horizon is 15 to 37 percent. The C horizon substratum has a hue of 7.5YR, SYR, or 2.5Y,
value of 4 to 6 dry and moist, and chrome of 2 to 6. Textures are dominantly sandy clay loam or sandy loam. Reaction is mildly to moderately alkaline
and is strongly to very strongly calcareous. Sample sites A7, 26, and 58 we,e in irrigated fields, whereas A10 was located in a ver, old orchard and,
according to the landowner, had not ever been plowed. As a result, sample site e10 more closely approximates the native Barx soil Ur.'. n hed by plowing
0 or other surface disturbance. Associated vegetation at the sample site 07 consists of irrigated crops, at /26 and 58 irrigated hay It, ,as, and at A10 of
orchard trees and native grasses.
