Introduction
Paul Banks and Associates, LLC
Pete Lien & Sons, Inc. is submitting this application to the Colorado Division of
Reclamation Mining and Safety, in order to amend the post- mining land use for the Saint
Barbara Sand and Gravel Mine (M- 2004 -013). The applicant owns approximately 467
acres of land north of and adjacent to the Arkansas River in unincorporated Pueblo
County, approximately 11 miles east of Pueblo. The permit boundary contains
approximately 364 acres, of which approximately 304 acres will be affected.
Surrounding land uses are primarily agricultural, rangeland, rural residential and sand
and gravel mining.
The current post- mining land use is wildlife habitat consisting of approximately 210 acres
of ponds and 94 acres of revegetated land including pond slopes, backfilled areas, and
setback areas. The applicant is proposing an amended post- mining land use of Tined
water storage. The rationale for this amendment is to provide an attractive site for
potential water storage entities and to negate the need for perpetual augmentation
water, as is currently required for the unlined ponds.
St. Barbara Sand and Gravel Mine 10031
Pete Lien & Sons, Inc. 4 June 15, 2011
