CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES and PROGRESS:
II) EARTHWORKS
A) Subgrade Preparation
1) VLF
Fine grading, moisture conditioning, and compaction of subgrade was performed prior to soil
liner fill (SLF) placement during the week. The areas inspected and approved for placement
are shown in Figure 2.
B) Slope Contouring
1) VLF
Slope contouring was performed in the following areas; between stations A36 +00 ( + / -) and
A41 +50 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 200 feet left of centerline; between stations C1 +00 ( + / -) and
C7 +00 ( + / -), approximately 50 to 100 feet left of centerline; between stations E20 +00 ( + / -) and
E22 +50 ( + / -), approximately 150 feet left of centerline to 150 feet right of centerline and
between stations H0 +00 ( + / -) and H10 +00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to 300 feet right of
centerline. Slope contouring was performed using various CAT dozers and various CAT
excavators. The material generated as the cut progressed was pushed down the slope.
