•
•
•
amec
Earth & Environmental
geotextile between stations 16 +00 ( + / -) and 24 +50 ( + / -) using a CAT 966 front -end loader, a CAT D6
dozer, and a 10 -ton smooth drum compactor. Three nuclear density tests were performed with passing
results. Moisture - density relations were performed in accordance with ASTM D698 -07. The
remaining portion of the excavated trench between station 16 +00 ( + / -) and 24 +50 ( + / -) was backfilled
with structural fill. Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift
was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10-
ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method
compaction technique is applicable). The Primary underdrain construction is complete.
VI)VLF Closure Drains
Excavation of northwest closure drains was performed using a John Deere 850 excavator. Due to hard
rock encountered at the design location the closure drain was relocated near station G11 +00 ( + / -),
approximately 200 feet left of centerline. This was discussed with John Lupo (Certifying Engineer)
and was approved. An AMEC field representative inspected and accepted the subgrade at the
northwest closure drain. Three -feet of underdrain fill material was placed in the north west closure
drain using a CAT 966 front -end loader.
Geotextile (10oz. /yd was placed over the underdrain fill material at the northwest and northeast
closure drain locations, installing approximately 5,000 square feet. The geotextile was inspected by an
AMEC field representative and found to be acceptable for structural fill placement. Structural fill was
placed in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT
773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor,
passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is applicable).
The northwest and northeast closure drains are complete.
VII)VLF Geosynthetics
Six loads of 100mil LLDPE geomembrane were delivered to site during the week for a total of 67
rolls. All loads were delivered on flat bed trucks in good condition. The rolls were unloaded using a
CAT 966 front -end loader with forks attached. The geomembrane was placed on three pieces of 4"
HDPE pipe, staked two rolls high. An AMEC field representative was present at all times during
unloading of the geomembrane. The AMEC representative also inventoried to geomembrane as it was
unloaded.
The Phase IV geomembrane was exposed between stations G +00 ( + / -) and G5 +00 ( + / -),
approximately 75 feet left of centerline and between stations G9 +80 ( + / -) and G10 +00 ( + / -) ,
approximately 75 feet left of centerline using a John Deere 35D excavator and a laborer. This was
performed preparing for the tie -in. An AMEC field representative was present at all times during
geomembrane exposure.
CQA ACTIVITIES:
SUMMARY:
The CQA activities performed consisted of observing, documenting and recording the construction
activities of the contractor.
VLF Weekly Report WE 04.17.10.D
