percent of the total production. <br />The final revegetation success standard for forage production is to be based upon sampling of the <br />two designated reference areas and by using a weighted average of these production values. No <br />reference area sampling was conducted during this interim monitoring and therefore, no absolute <br />revegetation success standard is available. However, based upon the previous reference area <br />sampling conducted on the Grassland Reference Area conducted in 1987, forage production <br />averaged 74.08 grams / m or 660.1 pounds of air dry forage per acre. When sampled in August <br />of 1997, total herbaceous production averaged 32.55 g/1/4 m or 1,160 pounds of air dry forage <br />per acre. Using these historic reference area data, the relative revegetation success standard for <br />forage production would be approximately 25.54 g/1 /4 m or 910 pounds of air dry forage per <br />acre. <br />The 39.38 grams / 1/4 m or 681.4 pounds of air dry total herbaceous forage per acre obtained <br />from the 2010 monitoring is greater than the approximate revegetation success standard of 22.99 <br />(90% of 25.54) g/1/4 m and thus it appears that this site is on track toward satisfying the <br />probable revegetation success standard with respect to total herbaceous forage production. <br />Table 2, Southfield Mine Statistical Summary and Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals that <br />the sample adequacy for total herbaceous forage production on this site at the 90 percent <br />confidence interval was determined to equal 42.4 transects. The locations of the 10 production <br />transects are shown on Map 1, Southfield Mine Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. <br />Shrub Density. The shrub density counts obtained from the 10 belt transects sampled on this <br />area in 2010 are summarized in Table 8, Corley Reclamation - Shrub Density. The average shrub <br />density was determined to equal 44.90 shrubs per one hundred square meters or 1,654.4 shrubs <br />per acre. Rubber Rabbitbrush was the most commonly encountered shrub. This area has no <br />revegetation shrub density success standard. When sampled in 2006, the average shrub density <br />was determined to equal 36.17 shrubs per one hundred square meters or 1,463,8 shrubs per acre. <br />Rubber Rabbitbrush was the most commonly encountered shrub. <br />The locations of the 10 shrub density transects sampled on this site in 2010 are shown on Map 1, <br />Southfield Mine Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. The sample adequacy calculations in <br />Table 2, Southfield Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of samples <br />required to characterize this site with respect to shrub density at the 90 percent confidence <br />interval was 92.1 transects. <br />Species Diversity. The percent relative composition or cover values in Table 6, Corley <br />Reclamation - Plant Cover, document that the four most dominant plant species growing on this <br />reclaimed site contributed a total of 69.35 percent of the total relative cover found on this site. <br />This is below the maximum value of 80 percent required by the Permit. The two most dominant <br />warm season grass species contributed a total of 27.67 percent of the total relative cover on this <br />reclaimed site, which is well below the 50 percent required by the Permit. These revegetation <br />monitoring data from this site confirm that the species diversity standard for this reclaimed site <br />in 2010 are satisfied with respect to the four dominants but are deficient with respect to the warm <br />10 <br />
