When sampled in 2006, average shrub density was 14.60 shrubs per one hundred square meters <br />or 590.9 shrubs per acre. Rubber Rabbitbrush and Fourwing Saltbush were the most commonly <br />encountered shrubs. <br />The revegetation shrub density success standard for the area corresponding to the refuse pile area <br />is 7.6 stems per acre and a yet to be defined figure for the mine portal area, which is to be <br />determined based upon reference area sampling. Since the portion of the Vento Reclamation, <br />corresponding to the refuse pile area averaged 590.9 stems per acre, it can be concluded that this <br />area appears to satisfy the revegetation success standard with respect to shrub density. <br />The locations of the 10 shrub density transects sampled on this site are shown on Map 1, <br />Southfield Mine Area - Vegetation Transect Location Map. The sample adequacy calculations <br />in Table 2, Southfield Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of <br />samples required to characterize this site with respect to shrub density at the 90 percent <br />confidence interval was 101.2 transects. <br />Species Diversity. The percent relative composition or cover values in Table 3, Vento <br />Reclamation - Plant Cover, document that the four most dominant plant species growing on this <br />reclaimed site contributed a total of 63.35 percent of the total relative cover found on this site. <br />This is well below the maximum value of 80 percent required by the Permit. The two most <br />dominant warm season grass species contributed 10.11 percent of the relative cover on this site, <br />which is well below the 50 percent required by the Permit.. These revegetation monitoring data <br />from this site confirm that the species diversity standards for this reclaimed site in 2010 are <br />satisfied with respect to the four most dominant species but are deficient with respect to the <br />warm season grass component. <br />CORLEY RECLAMATION <br />Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 10 plant cover transects on this site <br />in 2010 are presented in Table 6, Corley Reclamation - Plant Cover. Total plant cover on this site <br />averaged 57.10 percent and litter averaged 20.90 percent (Table 6, Corley Reclamation - Plant <br />Cover). <br />Perennial grasses constituted the most dominant plant life form and contributed 36.70 percent of <br />the vegetative cover or 64.27 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Shrubs contributed <br />19.09 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Perennial forbs contributed 4.20 percent of <br />the total cover and 13.58 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Annuals and biennials <br />contributed 9.11 percent of the total relative plant cover on this site, followed by Perennial forbs <br />and noxious weeds which contributed 9.11 percent and 5.60 percent respectively of the total <br />relative cover found growing on this site. <br />Western Wheatgrass, was the dominant plant growing on this site contributing 13.10 percent of <br />the total plant cover and 23.94 percent of the total relative cover on this site. Other dominant <br />plant species included: Rubber Rabbitbrush, Blue Grama, Side -Oats Grama, Cicer Milkvetch <br />8 <br />
