Suitable materials include native clay soils, clayey sand soils,
and bedrock materials which are broken down to these soil types (SC, CC, CL and CH). Bedrock materials should be processed to produce a soil like
material with maximum particle size of 6 inches, The materials used as embankment fill should have at least 25 percent lines (material finer than No. 200 sieve).
The field engineer may approve the use of other materials following appropriate laboratory testing.
Unacceptable Fill Materials:
Materials not considered suitable for use as embankment fill include cleaner sand and gravel. Also unacceptable are highly carbonaceous materials
obtained from bedrock excavations or well- cemented sandstones which do not break down to soil like material, Highly organic soils or materials containing
construction debris are also not acceptable. Frozen soil is not acceptable.
Fill Placement and Compaction:
Embankment fill should be placed in thin horizontal lifts (8 to 12 inches loose thickness). The fill should be moisture conditioned to within 2 percent of optimum
moisture content and compacted to at least 95 percent of standard proctor maximum dry density (AS TM D 698). The Placing and spreading of fill materials should
be started at the lowest point of the embankment. Fill placement and compaction should be observed and tested by qualified geotechnical engineering firm.
Monitoring and Inspections.
Monitoring and inspections should be performed by qualified individuals as outlined in Colorado DRMS regulations.
Construction Notes:
1. The field engineer shall adjust the dimensions and elevations in the field to ensure that the toltal capacity is less than 20
acre -feet and the embankment height is less that 20.0 feet per MSHA procedures.
2. Hatched area of the spillway and outlet section shall be riprapped with 18 inch median
size material.
3. Hatched area of the outlet of the Lower Clean Water diversion shall be nprapped with 200 cubic yards of 24 inch median
size material.
AREA - CAPACITY TABLE
(Revised following as -built survey)
ELEVATION
AREA
AVERAGEAREA
CAPACITY
INCREMENTAL
CUMULATIVE
(Feet)
(Acres)
(Acres)
(Acre -Feet)
(Acre -Feet)
6621
0.13
6639
0
0
Colovwyo Coal Company
APPROVED BY-
0.142
Ow • 5731 State Highway 13
6625
0.16
0.570
0.570
0.403
No.
REVISION
6630
0.65
BY
2.013
2.582
Contour annotations, c lean water diversion ditch,
0.927
PR03
6635
1.21
3124111
4.633
7.215
PR03
Delete siphon specs, edit construction note, add riprap
1.605
TOP
KRR
6640
2.00
8.026
15.241
2.305
6642
2.61
4.611
19.852
TOTAL CAPACITY 19.85 ACRE -FEET (DESIGN)
6625.0
PERFORATIONS
Elevation of
Perforations (ft)
Diameter of
Perforations (in)
Number of
Perforations per
Elevation
6630
1
4
6631
1
4
6638
2
4
6639
2
4
ENGINEERS CERTIFICATION
1, THOMAS C.
