Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Vincent Matthews
Division Director and
State Geologist
At the request of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS), the Colorado
Geological Survey (CGS) is providing this review of a proposed May 2011 Technical Revision to the
Pikeview Quary mine plan. This is the third technical review to the mine plan that CGS has reviewed
following a large rockslide in December 2008, subsequent slide progression in September 2009,
continued monitoring, and attempt to remove portions of the South Block by blasting in February
2010. Since the last technical revision in May 2010, "significant" ongoing movement has been
reported by the Quarry operator, particularly in the North Block area toward the middle of the quarry
(see Figure 1). The purpose of the latest Technical Revision is to extend the submittal of the
comprehensive mining and reclamation plan amendment to May 2012 to allow for continued
investigative work and to obtain access to the US Forest Service lands in order to complete
reclamation.
rv quarry rockslide after September 2009 reactivation (shown in red shading).
the headscarp.
