June 14, 2011 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JDM

Typical white top patch observed in BRB.
- White top patches were observed in the following locations with the largest patches observed along the western
facing slope of the SIIPM-6 drainage and should be managed to aid in the eradication of the species within the
bond release area.
revegetated area 99-1 f
revegetated area 03-1n
revegetated area 97-1b
revegetated area 03-1dd
revegetated 98-1e
revegetated area 03-1k
- Houndstounge rosettes were observed along SIIPM-16 and SIIPM6 in addition to the reclaimed haulroad
corridors of 03-1a, 03-lb, 98-If, and 02-1b that will need to managed. The majority of haul road corridors and
areas utilized for facilities are managed for noxious and invasive weeds on an as-need basis according to the Sage
Creek Mine weed management plan.
Based on the Division's guidelines for the management of noxious weeds, one of two criteria is used to determine
a infestation of noxious weeds is occurring; (1) noxious weeds exceeds three percent of relative cover in a
revegetated stand and (2) a patch of noxious weeds exceeds 25% relative cover and occupies an area larger than
100 square feet on a disturbed area. Based on this inspection, though noxious weeds were observed and noted, the
noxious weeds do not appear to meet the criteria of an infestation. A review of the revegetation evaluation
submitted with SL1 will help determine the actual percentage of noxious weeds identified through vegetation
sampling.
TOPSOIL - Rule 4.0611 ?Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3;
Redistribution 4.06.4:
Topsoil depths were not verified during this inspection as depths were measured previously. Records of topsoil
depths are available at the Division offices and at the Sage Creek Mine offices. No evidence of inadequate topsoil
redistribution was observed during this inspection.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 9
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 4 of 5
