Thanks. -Tom
From: Kaldenbach, Tom
Sent: Monday, May 23, 20112:34 PM
To: Musick, Jason
Cc: Hernandez, Daniel
Subject: Peabody Sage Creek Mine, (C-2009-087), TR-2, Summary of DRMS review
Jason:
I have reviewed the operator's submittal for TR-2 and conclude that it is ready for approval. More than 15 days have
passed since completeness letters were mailed. The only comment received was a letter from the Division of Water
Resources, saying they do not object to the proposed changes. No additional bond is necessary.
TR-2 proposes the following changes to the hydrologic monitoring plan.
1) For most ground water and surface water sites that are upstream of compliance points, the parameters
monitored will be reduced to a short list of parameters (mainly exclude most metals from the long list). The
short list is the same as Seneca II's "revised long lists", approved in PR-2 in 12/10.
2) Reduce selected sampling frequencies to be consistent with Seneca II and change selected sampling months to
better match flow or water level conditions.
The changes appear appropriate and will allow effective evaluation of impacts on the hydrologic balance and
determination of compliance with State and Federal water quality standards.
TR-2 also provides the following documents for inserting in the permit: a copy of the CDPS Permit and a PE-certified as-
built drawing for Pond 004.
Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Phone (303) 866-3567, ext. 8128
1
