June 7,2011 C-1 981-046/Sunlight Mine JRS
Inspection Topic Summary
NOTE: Y=Inspected N=Not Inspected R=Comments Noted V=Violation Issued NA=Not Applicable
N -Air Resource Protection N -Roads
N -Availability of Records N -Reclamation Success
R -Backfill&Grading N -Revegetation
N -Excess Spoil and Dev. The permit for the mine was revoked and the bond was forfeited.
The reclamation was completed by the Division. The weather was warm and sunny and the ground was dry.
BACKFILL and GRADING—Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
-The reclaimed upper portal area was stable at the time of the inspection. There was no slumping, settling or
cracking of the backfill observed. The slope and remaining bench were well vegetated and no erosional problems
were noted. Water is routed off of the bench by a small ditch and berm along the outslope. This ditch routes
water off of the bench and to the edge of the face of the fill.
-The lower portal area backfill also appears to be stable at this time. There is a steep native slope north of the
reclamation where there is some sliding occurring and several trees are going to fall as a result at some point in the
future.
SLIDES and DAMAGE -Rule 4.12:
-The portal collapse at the lower portal area appears to be the same as it was last fall. The block wall is still in
place and limits access to the portal.
SIGNS AND MARKERS—Rule 4.02:
-The Division's reclaimed mine site sigh is in place at the base of the upper portal backfill. The sign is in good
condition and, remarkably, does not have any bullet holes in it.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
This completes the Division's 7 June 2011 inspection report for the Sunlight Mine.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 2 of 6
