• Apache Canyon Shaft Lower
• Apache Canyon Shaft Upper
• Coal Loadout
• West Portal Explosives Area
• Access Roads to SAE Areas
Each of the SAE areas was physically inspected on June 9t" and June 10th. The results of the
office and field inspection are noted below for each SAE area.
West Portal Substation
The West Portal Substation area is a former facility area at the West Mine. The .47 acres of
disturbance was reclaimed in 1994. A sediment demonstration in the form of modeling was
found in Exhibit 19, part 5 Miscellaneous Drainage Supplement. The area is also mentioned in
the Stormwater Management Plan in Exhibit 22 of the approved permit under Part 2, item #15
and in the table included in Part 5, item b. The area is shown as an SAE on Map 12 West
Portal Area — Roads, Utilities, and Facilities, 3/24/2011 of the approved PAP. Modeling and
documentation included in the PAP call for porous check dams during revegetation, which
would be in the early years following final reclamation and reseeding. Check dams were not
found during the inspection. However, the reclaimed area was found well vegetated with
grasses and forbs and was unremarkable as compared to the surrounding area. No erosion or
evidence of instability was noted.
West Portal Water Tanks Area 1(steep slope)
The West Portal Water Tank Area 1 is a former facility area at the West Mine. The .56 acres of
disturbance was reclaimed in 1994. A sediment demonstration in the form of modeling was
found in Exhibit 19, part 5 Miscellaneous Drainage Supplement. The area is also mentioned in
the Stormwater Management Plan in Exhibit 22 of the approved permit under Part 2, item #4
and in the table included in Part 5, item b.
