Our water treatment residuals are now showing a significant increase in gross
alpha/beta concentrations along with an increase in uranium concentrations. I am attaching some recent data we
"received for our dried water treatment residuals from our Moffat Water Treatment Plant which receives and treats the
Ralston Creek water. We have been monitoring the residuals generated by the Moffat plant for the past 15 -16 years
and the data has allowed the residuals to be beneficially reused as a compost feed stock at A-1 Organics per TENORM
Policy and Guidance. The recent data collected on January 27, 2011 are now at a level that must be managed at an
Industrial Landfill. I do not have the approvals or cost for disposal of these residuals yet but I anticipate a significant
increase in cost.
Anything the Division can do help the remediation process would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tom
Thomas C Mountfort I Environmental Compliance Supervisor
Denver Water I t: (303-628-6342) 1 f: (303-628-6853) 1 c: (303-994-9338)
1600 West 12th Ave I Denver, CO 80204-3412
tom.mountfort(cDdenverwater.org
- - - - `:cats
