3. Wetland Shrub Density, page 18. In regard to bullet # 2 above, please explain the technique
used to determine 100m2 belt transects with the shorter transects in the wetland areas.
Response: Due to common nature of the long, narrow wetlands areas, the shrub density
belt transect was modified to conform to a 5 X 4 meter belt transect, with the shrub density
transects being 5 meters long, with 2 meters being sampled on either side of the transect
tape. In the wetland areas where the polygon configuration would not allow for a 50 X 2
meter belt shrub density transect to be used then, 5 X 4 meter belt transect was used to
sample shrub density, with the shrubs being sampled for 2 meters on either side of the
outstretched transect tape.
4. Irrigated Pasture Reference Area, Plant cover, page 22 - The Irrigated Pasture Reference
Area is Map 2.04-10-3, but is referenced as Map 2.04.10-1 in the text. Please correct the
text to reference the correct map. Map the same correction in the Production section, second
paragraph, page 22.
Response:-The sentence fragment at the beginning of page 22 will be changed to read.
shown on Map 2.04.10-3, Irrigated Pasture Reference Area. In a similar manner, the text
pertaining to the first sentence of the second complete paragraph will be changed to read:
The locations of the 51 production transects sampled on this site are shown on Map
2.04.10-3, Irrigated Pasture Reference Area.
5. Irrigated Pasture Reference Area Map (Map 2.04.10-3) - The transect IPRA-38 as shown at
two locations on the map. Please remove the transect that is east of the reference area in a
housing community. Make the same correction for transect DPRA-31 on the Dryland
Pasture Reference Area Map (2.04.10-4).
Response: The apparent duplicate transect locations are not duplicates at all. The
reference to Map 2.04.10-3 and the apparent placement of transect IPRA-38, actually
pertains to the Map Legend. To clarify this confusion, the title of the Legend will be
increased in font size and made to stand out more. The same thing will be done to Map
2.04.10-4.
6 Irrigated Pasture Reference Area Map - The Southwest corner of the reference area was not
included in the sampling because of overgrazing by horses. Please give an accurate
description (measurements or landmarks) of this excluded area to ensure consistency of
future measurements.
Response: The nature of this map was previously dictated by Mr. Dan Mathews of the
DRMS. In order to clam this issue Map 2.04.10-3 will be modified and the cross
hatching and text on the map will be removed and the map redrawn to shown that this
area is not apart of the Irrigated Pasture Reference Area. In addition, the northwest,
northeast and southeast corners of this site will be permanently marked in the field with
steel posts in this area to document the exact boundaries of the area within the fenced
area that actually pertains to the Irrigated Pasture Reference Area.
7. Vegetation Successes, Big Sagebrush, page 31 - The last sentence of the second paragraph
states "Based upon this comparison, WFC feels justified in proposing to use the existing
Dryland Pasture Reference Area as a success standard for the Dryland Pasture
Response to First Adequacy Review Page 25
