Response - SW-N205 is located on an irrigation ditch that flows northward. Some of this
water does end up in Meehan Draw but it appears that about 213 of it (based on relative
areas of irrigation) flows to Glasier Draw.
14. In the last full paragraph on page 23 of Section 2.04.7, reference is made to Pond NHN-001
and Ponds NHN-002 through NHN-004. Please revise this text to show that there are three
ponds.
Response - The statement has been corrected in revised Section 2.04.7
15. In several instances in the permit application, reference is made to baseline surface water
hydrology data being located in the New Horizon 1 Area and the New Horizon 2 Area
permit applications. Please include all baseline information relevant to the proposed New
Horizon North Mine in the New Horizon North Mine permit application.
Response - Baseline data from NH#1 has been added to Appendix 2.04.7-2.
16. In the top paragraph on page 18 of Section 2.04.7, potential uses of water for domestic
drinking, irrigation and livestock are mentioned. Please expand the discussion to include,
and reference, the applicable surface water quality standards, if any, from the CDPHE
Response - The irrigation water is suitable for domestic drinking water although it does
have a relatively high (untreated) pH, (see Table 2 CDPHE WQCC Regulation No. 41).
The water in the drainages is suitable for livestock and irrigation but unsuitable (high in
sulfates >250mg17) for domestic drinking water (see Table 2, 3 and 4 CDPHE WQCC
Regulation No.41). This statement has been added in Section 2.04.7 (page 20, under
Surface Water Ouality).
2.04.8 - Climatological Information
1. In the second paragraph of Section 2.04.8, the New Horizon North Mine is referred to as the
"North Adjacent Mine" and the "North Adjacent Mine Expansion". Please revise the text to
refer instead to the New Horizon North Mine.
Response - The requested revision has been made in the text of Section 2.04.8.
2. Table 2.04.8 Climatological Information has been provided. Please identify the source from
which the data was obtained, for example, from the Western Regional Climate Center station
at Uravan, Colorado (058560), or other source, as appropriate.
Response - The text in permit section 2.04.8, page 1 identifies the source of this information as
obtainedfrom the Western Regional Climate Center website located at www.wrcc.dri.edu.
2.04.9 - Soils Resource Information
1.
