MINED LAND RECLAMATION BOARD 110(2) ANNUAL REPORT
For Season 2010
GLACIER PEAK MINING
PERMIT NO. M-2003-030
Submitted: 31 May 2011
Summary:
Glacier Peak Mining LLC operated mechanized equipment on the Smoky Hawk and Elk Horn
mining claims from 21 May through 23 Aug in Teller County, Colorado, to produce amazonite,
smoky quartz, fluorite, goethite, and other crystallized mineral specimens. The equipment was idle
26 days of those 95 days for maintenance, use at other sites, or for Sunday. Included also were 32
days for reclamation on the Smoky Hawk. A John Deere 992 and 690 track hoe, haul truck, and
small bulldozer were used along with an appropriate air compressor for chipping hammers and a
water buffalo. A drill and blasting agent was used during 1 day. Two powder magazines were
temporarily located on site. Blasting operations were conducted exclusively at Site B on the Smoky
Hawk. Follow-on mineral removal, prospecting, reclamation, and claim upkeep continued on all
Glacier Peak claims through 14 Oct 2010. Continued active claim jumping is occurring.
Unauthorized persons removed significant quantities of valuable crystallized specimens from Site B
during June.
MLap Depicting Operations:
Attached is a map showing the five claims covered under this permit. The fifteen proposed and
active excavation sites covered by this permit are shown by the letters A through Q and are
indicated with rectangular boxes. An orange area within a rectangular box indicates an open
excavation where work will resume this season (2010). Presently, there is one open excavation, Site
C, on the Smoky Hawk. A blue shaded box indicates a reclaimed area of one year or with less than
80 percent growth. A green shaded box shows areas that have been mined, reclaimed, and have 80
percent or better growth.
Current Disturbances (2010 ):
During 2010, Site B was re-opened and extended uphill and to the southwest for an additional 2,000
square feet (0.05 acre) new disturbance. The northwest corner of Site A was opened for an
additional 2,050 square feet (0.05 acre) new disturbance. Total acreage on Site A and B was 1.13
acre. Otherwise production occurred by deepening the existing excavation on both Sites A and B.
Additionally, approximately another 1,000 square feet (0.02 acre) was disturbed on Site C. below
the camp site on Site C. This excavation was bermed and made safe for winter. Work will resume
here in 2011. Total disturbance, excluding access roads is 1.37 acre.
