PERMIT #: M-1977-132
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: THM
INSPECTION DATE: May 19, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS). The Berry Pit is located approximately 1 mile east of Meeker,
Colorado. The site is a 67.6 acre 112c operation. Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa
County (United) representative Peter Kearl accompanied the inspector during the inspection. According to
DRMS records the sight has not been inspected since August 2002.
The mine identification sign was observed at the main entrance to the site along with permit boundary markers
in the form of "t-posts" with signs. Both the mine identification sign and permit boundaries are in compliance
with Rule 3.1.12.
The site was inactive during the inspection and only a few pieces of equipment were observed within the permit
area. It appeared that most of "Mining Area 1" was completed during a project that took place in 2010. All fuel
and chemical tanks were properly placed in secondary containment. Various stockpiles of processed material
were observed within the permit area. Some standing water was observed in "Mining Area 1" that is likely
present due to recent precipitation events.
In an effort to ensure that the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim the site per the requirements of the
approved reclamation plan, DRMS has updated the reclamation cost estimate (copy enclosed). Therefore
pursuant to Sections 34-32.5-117(4) of the Colorado Land Reclamation Act, adequate financial warranty must
be submitted to the DRMS within 60 days of the mailing date of this report. Please review the enclosed
figures as soon as possible and contact our office if any calculation errors are noted.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone no. (970) 241-2042.
