Z1
REPLYTO
ATTENTION OF
DEPARTMENT OFTHE ARMY
U.S. ARMY ENGINEER DISTRICT, SACRAMENTO
CORPS OF ENGINEERS
1325 J STREET
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA 958142922
FILE COPY
February 23, 2007
Regulatory Branch (200675335)
Mr. Al Pfister
Assistant Field Supervisor
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Ecological Services
764 Horizon Drive, Building B
Grand Junction, Colorado 81506-3946
Dear. . Mr Pfister:
We are writing to you concerning Department of the Army
permit application number 200675335. This application was
submitted by Archuleta County and Keyah Grande Ranch, seeking
authorization to construct a gravel pit. The project site is
located near Devil Creek in Section 5, 6, 7, and 8 of township
34, and Range 3, Archuleta County, Colorado.
We have determined that a net depletion of water resulting
from the project may affect, likely to adversely affect, the
Colorado pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus lucius), and razorback sucker
(Xyrauchen texanus), Federally-listed endangered species, and may
impact critical habitat. The se depletions result from
evaporation loss.
The applicant estimates an average annual 11.65 acre-feet of
water would be consumptively used through evaporation of the 6
acres of lake surface. We are including the applicant's
estimate.
. Please provide this office with a copy of the final
biological opinion, if necessary, referencing project number
200675335 as soon as possible. Conservation recommendations
which you may develop will be considered in a permit decision.
If you have any questions, please contact me in the Durango
Regulatory Office, 799 E 3rd Street, #2, Durango, Colorado 81301,
telephone 970-375-9452, or e-mail kara.a.hellige@usace.army.mil.
.Sincerely,
SIGNED
Kara A. Hellige
Chief Durango Regulctory,Office
Sacramento. District
