Weather varied during the
inspection, from sunny and warm to rain and snow showers. Locally, weather patterns continue with cooler
temperatures and higher than normal precipitation. The Yampa River basin is at 201%of normal. At the mine
site, there is still a considerable amount of snow in the upper Pond 016 and 017 watersheds.
FISH and WILDLIFE—Rule 4.18:
The Columbian Sharp-Tailed Grouse lek near the intersection of Haul Roads A and J and the Ridgeline Access
Road was visited the morning of May 17th,at approximately 6 a.m. There were approximately 20-30 birds
dancing and drumming. Harriers,Red-Tailed Hawks, several songbirds, elk,and deer were observed throughout
the permit area.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
7-(Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,
4.05.10;Diversions 4.05.4;Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring
4.05.13;Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Pond 006 was discharging somewhat cloudy water, but appeared to be well within the 0.5 trd/l settleable solids
limitation. The embankment and outfall area of the pond were stable. There was still a good amount of water
running down through the 006 Gulch, but snowmelt was nearly complete in this drainage.
Pond 009 was discharging fairly clear water. The embankment of Pond 009 was stable, but the emergency
spillway still needs supplemental rip rap to meet design criteria. The rock in the spillway has weathered and
fractured.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 9
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 15
