Pineda <br />Director <br />Dear Mr. Velarde: <br />I- <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article <br />33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on May 20, 2011, an application to <br />renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Edna Strip Mine was considered complete <br />for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining <br />Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Chevron Mining, Inc. has applied for a permit renewal (RN6) for the Edna Mine. The mine is a reclaimed <br />surface mine on land located approximately 5 miles Northwest of Oak Creek, Colorado. The permittee has <br />previously applied for final (Phase III) bond release for the remaining portions of the mine. No additional <br />mining is proposed for this permit term. The applicant is only proposing maintaining the current <br />reclamation. No new disturbances are proposed. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />T5N, R85W, Portions of Sections 31, 32 <br />T5N, R86W, Portions of Section 36 <br />T4N, R86W, Portions of Sections 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25 <br />T4N, R85W, Portions of Sections 7, 8, 17, 18, 19, 29, 30 <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Oak Creek, <br />Rattlesnake Butte, and Cow Camp. <br />Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish <br />and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife considerations, including <br />potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested. <br />Applicable sections of the permit renewal are enclosed. A copy of the renewal application is available for <br />public inspection at the Routt County Clerk and Recorder, 136 6th Street, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477, <br />and at the Division office, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. <br />In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted to the <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety at the above address by July 19, 2011.
