Inspection of a
portion of the load out occurred at the end of a meeting with the operator regarding a nearby mine application.
Mr. George Patterson of Energy Fuels Coal represented the operator. Representatives of the nearby proposed
mine accompanied the inspection. The weather was cool and sunny. The region had received recent rain storms
earlier in the week. The Southfield mine is a reclaimed underground mine, with an off-site load out located west
of the:town of Florence. The load out is mostly reclaimed, with two remaining sediment ponds.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
Most of the load out has been reclaimed with the exception of the access alongside the rail road track, and
both Sediment pond L1 and L2. Vegetation appears good on the west side of the load out. No gullies or other
erosional features were observed. The fence on the west side of the load out remains intact, and the berm appears
to be controlling unauthorized access through the permit area.
No problems were observed on the west load out area.
SLIDES and DAMAGE -Rule 4.12:
Damage from unauthorized vehicle traffic across the load out site appears to be appropriately repaired.
OFFSITE SUPPORT FACILIITES -Rule 4.04,4.28:
The load out is located east of the town of Florence, and approximately 12 miles from the Southfeild mine
site. This inspection focused only on the load out.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED-None
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 3
