These
tests will differ from previous SF6 releases on the mine bench; in these in situ tests, SF6
will be injected into boreholes to help us predict where gases that may be generated in
future Electrofrac experiments may exit the mine walls or cliff face. These tests are
planned for the week of May 16, 2011.
During the tests, we will be injecting pure sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) into approximately six
boreholes near the two existing Electrofracs EF1 and EF3. Each borehole will receive a
90-minute SF6 injection at a flow rate of 1 scf/min. The maximum total amount of SFr to
be released in this series of injections is 230 lb.
As previously communicated to you, ExxonMobil engaged Ashworth Leininger Group to
evaluate air permitting requirements for a previous SF6 release of this magnitude, and
their conclusion was that "The proposed testing program [release of 230 lb.] does not
trigger any regulatory requirements of the CDPHE." Based on Ashworth Leininger
Group's analysis, the sum of the two 2011 SF6 tests (460 lb.) does not trigger any
regulatory requirements.
Respectfully submitted,
,-4? e, aSAmx-,-
Tom L.
