May 12, 2011 C-1981-018/Deserado Mine JRS
RECLAMATION SUCCESS (cont) -Methane degas hole LWB 10-2 was reclaimed in 2010. The site was well
graded and stable and blended in well with the surrounding terrain. There was some germination and growth but
not as much as was seen on other pads and areas reclaimed in 2010. No erosional problems were noted on the pad
at the time of the inspection. The short road spur to the pad was ripped and seeded and showed a fair amount of
germination and growth. There was some minor rutting at the entrance to the road but it is not a problem.
-Exploration holes 310132-20 and 310132-24 were both well graded and stable and blended well with the
surrounding terrain. No erosional problems were noted on either pad. Both pads had good vegetative cover.
These pads were both along the(reclaimed)access road to return shafts 1 and 2).
-The pad area for Return Shaft 1 was stable and graded to blend with the surrounding terrain. The area was well
vegetated and had excellent shrub coverage. No erosional features were noted on the site.
The pad for Return Shaft 2 was stable and graded to blend with the surrounding terrain. The area was well
vegetated. No erosional features were noted on the reclaimed RS-2 site.
-The access road for RS-1 and RS-2 has also been reclaimed. The road was well graded and blends in well with
the surrounding terrain. Deserado has constructed fairly high water bars(3-4 feet)to both control water flow and
limit access by motorized vehicles. The road is well vegetated and no erosional problems were noted at the time
of the inspection.
-The pad for Return Shaft 3 was stable and graded well to blend into the surrounding terrain. The site was
reseeded in stages, with the last seeding coming in 2010. Based on the different vintages of seeding, there is a big
difference in the vegetative cover on the site. The older seeded areas show good vegetative cover while the areas
seeded in 2010 are just starting to germinate. Scott indicated that the concrete cap for RS-3 slumped in the late
winter of 2010. This has been fixed and no additional settling or slumping was noted. The road spur to RS-3 was
reclaimed in 2010. The road was ripped and seeded. There is some germination and growth on the road.
-As noted in a previous inspection report,Deserado used some of the subsoil from pile 5a to build-up the roadside
berms on site(at the instruction of MSHA). The pile was reseeded following the removal of the material. (This
material will be used as a topsoil substitute for the reclamation of the refuse piles). There was very good
germination and growth showing on the reseeded portion of the pile. The pile was graded to direct water to the
northwest.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED:None
This concludes the 12 May 2011 inspection report for the Deserado Mine.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 4 of 8
