I will probably have more questions as things progress. It's good to see maybe
there can be alternetives to poisions. I am not up to date with montrose countys weed people but will try to get
that way during this process. I do know that a few years ago they supported a cost share program an sent a
helicopter to spray a small patch of purple loosestrife and was successfull only in coating the nieghbors with
spray they did not need or want and spent alot that could have been managed for alot less and with real results.
hopefully theres been some common sense infused to the weed dept. since then Thank You for the info and
time Roger Carver
From: "Brown, Sandy" <Sandy. Our Rules reference the "Colorado Weed Management Act" and the
Guideline for the Management of Weed Control on Coal Mines
(http://www.mining.state.co.us/Forms/NoxiousWeeds pdf). In the guideline, the Division recommends multiple
control methods depending on the weed species and the extent of infestation. Chemical controls are allowed
and are generally very effective for weed control on mined lands. Other alternatives include: mechanical,
physical, or biological controls. Often, we consult with the county weed agent for their recommendations. If
you are requesting a specific weed management plan, that would need to be negotiated with the mine operator
and the operator would include that in the permit application. The weed management plan is required as part
of the permit application and must be approved in the permit.
Our rules are available on-line at
http://www.mining.state.co.us/rulesregs/Coal%20Regulations%209%2014%2005 pdf .
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Sandy Brown
Sandra L.
