INTRODUCTION
During the summer and early fall of 1995, the areas that had been disturbed and
reclaimed as part of the Meeker Area Mine operation (Permit C-81-032) were visited
and sampled in compliance with Rules 3.03 and 4.15. Portions of the mine that are
owned by Mr. Phil Jensen were sampled in late July and early August. The Rienau
No. 2 mine, which is on property owned by Mr. George Rienau, were not able to be
sampled until the last week of September. The disturbed areas are located north of
Meeker, Colorado within Sections 20, 21, and 29 of T 2 N, R 93 W of Rio Blanco
County. Sampling was performed in order to determine if the vegetation of the
reclaimed mine had progressed far enough to qualify for Phase III bond release. 1995
represents the first year of two consecutive years of study required for a complete
Phase III bond release application. Sampling was carried out by Matthew S. Hayes of
Hayes Environmental Services, Inc. and was assisted by Mr. Greg Lewicki of Greg
Lewicki and Associates. Mr Larry Routten of the State of Colorado's Division of
Minerals and Geology (DMG) was consulted before and during the sampling process as
was Mr. Robert Postle of the Office of Surface Mining (OSM). Mr. Dan Mathews
(DMG) inspected the mine site on August 11, 1995 and observed the field sampling
methods.
1
